Inadequate Diagnosis and Treatment Caused Serious Injuries

When you go to the doctor for medical care you expect that you will receive proper care and adequate treatment. That was not the case for a man who suffered serious medical problems as a result of improper diagnosis and treatment. The man and his wife filed a lawsuit in Cook County against the doctors and DuPage Medical Group, Ltd. claiming medical negligence. The lawsuit seeks damages in excess of $50,000.

Brain Scan Was Misread

The man in this case underwent a brain scan. However, according to the lawsuit, the doctors failed to properly read the brain scan and therefore did not properly diagnose his medical condition. The man had suffered physical injuries that necessitated further medical care, but the doctors did not provide it. They failed to interpret the CT brain scan they ordered to be performed. This led to a worsening of the man’s condition.

Brain Scan Testing

A CT scan, short for computed tomography scan, is a highly technical test using x-rays to review the brain. During the test the patient lies flat on a table which then moves into the CT scan machine. The scan is used to review and evaluate head injuries including such things as fractures and brain bleeding. The test may take 30 to 60 minutes and is completed by a radiology technologist. The test results will be provided to your physician for review and diagnosis. In this case, the man indicates that the scan was not properly evaluated and therefore his condition remained untreated.

Worsening Medical Condition

When a condition goes undiagnosed it can easily worsen because the patient is not being provided adequate treatment. In this instance, the man’s head injury worsened and required further medical care. Luckily, the man survived, which is not always the case in situations such as this one. The failure to diagnose can lead to medical complications and even death.

Medical Malpractice

Doctors and other members of the medical team are expected to provide a high level of care to their patients. When they fail to do so it may be due to a mistake or an oversight. Sadly, errors in diagnosis and treatment can cause severe injuries. Medical mistakes are now the third most common cause of death in the United States. Doctors must take care to ensure that they provide their patients with the best possible care and treatment.

Medical Negligence Lawsuit

When a patient is the victim of medical malpractice he may need to take legal action to recover the many expenses that have been incurred because of the error. The victim or his family could be entitled to compensation for the medical costs as a result of the mistake as well as money for pain and suffering. Further damages may include such things as lost wages and loss of enjoyment of life. Claimants could also request legal fees be paid by the responsible party.
